There’s no doubt that the ‘pause’ we’ve been experiencing has been a valuable time for reflection — and many of us are reassessing our priorities.
We do well to remember that nothing life is ever certain. Many of us feel a bit stuck at one time or another, and often knowing what our next step is isn’t always super clear.
Being open to change is key, as well as treating ourselves with self-love and patience.
Life itself is a journey of discovery — and it’s not linear for any of us.
Thereafter building self awareness practices is a next step to creating the life you want : this helps you pinpoint what your passions and emotions are, and how your personality can help you in life. Where you choose to focus your energy, emotions, personality, and reactions determines which direction you’ll head in. Here are my pointers :
.
Look at yourself objectively
This can be a tricky process, but getting to know your real self can be extremely rewarding. The key here is to understand what makes you tick, but not to worry about comparing yourself to others.
.
Keep a journal
You can write about anything in your journal, even if it is not related to your goals. Recording your thoughts on paper helps to relieve your mind of those ideas, and clears it up to make space for new information and ideas.
.
Write down your goals, plans, and priorities
Plan out your goals so they turn from ideas into a step-by-step process. Break down your larger goals into mini-goals so they seem less overwhelming and can be tackled head on.
.
Perform daily self-reflection
This is most effective when you set aside a few minutes every day to sit in a quiet place and think — and you use a journal and write down your thoughts.
.
Practice meditation and other mindfulness habits
Not all meditation and mindfulness has to be formal. One of the most frequent forms of mindfulness you may practice comes from carrying out everyday tasks that give you a sense of therapeutic calm and allow you to focus on the present moment, such as washing dishes, going for a run or a mindful walk.
.
Take personality and psychometric tests
Take these personality and psychometric tests to help understand what traits you have. Some popular tests that are aimed at increasing self-awareness include the Myers-Briggs test and the Predictive Index.
.
Ask trusted friends to describe you
Tell your friends when you are looking for open, honest, critical, and objective perspectives.
Allow them to feel safe while they are giving you an informal yet honest view, but make sure they know they are doing it to help and not hurt you.
